Kids Instyle – Sydney 2012

Kids Instyle is the children’s element of the very popular trade event Life Instyle. This event gives retailers of boutique children’s fashion, furniture, decor and accessories the opportunity to view the new and innovative products being introduced to the market by well-known and up and coming designers.

We went along to the Hordern Pavillion in Sydney yesterday to feast our eyes on all these amazing items. Despite having attended previous Kids Instyle events, I am still in awe of the talent and the calibre of the designers present. The displays alone were a work of art and the products were equally as impressive. We found that bold colours and stripes are still big for this Winter as are fair trade and bamboo products. Crocheted/knitted toys were also prominent and it was great to see a large number of Australian made products present.

Pictured above are just a few of the stand out exhibitors for us (there were so many!). Over the coming weeks we are looking forward to featuring these and many other amazing new designer brands, ranges and products that we had the pleasure of discovering during our visit. Watch this space my fashionable friends!

Food Face!

Even the fussiest of eaters won’t be able to resist eating an eyebrow or two when the fabulous Mr Food Face and Ms Food Face come for dinner!

Give this lovely couple a mashed potato mullet or some beetroot blush and the kids will be gulping it down. Or let the kids get creative by making their own masterpieces… a picture of Daddy perhaps?

Behind the Boutique… Julia from rudy and the dodo

Since starting Style My Child, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of meeting some amazing people. One such person is Julia, owner of rudy and the dodo, who happily took time out of her busy day to have a chat…

Tell us a bit about yourself
I am a mama of 3 lovely boys (6, 4 and 1), wife of one lovely man and run my own terribly fabulous little online business, rudy and the dodo, from home.

What can we expect from rudy and the dodo this year?
We will continue to bring fabulous wooden toys, quirky gifts, decor and accessories from around the globe to our customers. We’ve become known for our gorgeous range of creative kits and French goodies in particular and will continue to surprise and delight our customers with these (and more!)

What product couldn’t you live without?
Hmmm … toss up between I-Phone and my Car. Both boring choices but essential to keep our busy little family humming along.

What are you listening to in the car at the moment?
A few weeks ago we took our boys into the city and, whilst there, we saw some buskers in Pitt Street Mall. They were Jack Man Friday. My 6 year old purchased his first CD that day for $10 – a very cool little album called “Foxes” which we listen to over and over.

How do you like to spend your spare time?
If I’m not with my boys, I love doing anything creative – particularly interior design. I am forever faffing around the house, changing decor, adding things here and there. I’m also seriously addicted to Pinterest and any show, magazine or blog about design!

Where do you see yourself and your store in 5 years?
Enjoying a healthy balance between business and family. I envisage employing staff and the store being the “go to” place to shop for fabulous gifts for little individuals.

Your perfect day would be….
A big breakfast at a fabulous cafe, a day on my Nan’s farm with all my boys, followed by a fabulous spicy curry dinner and a good red, shared with hubby and friends.

Skip Hop Hug & Hide Activity Toys

These adorable Hug & Hide toys by Skip Hop are full of little surprises!

Opening the arms reveals a baby, a mirror and other squeaking, rattling and crinkling parts to amuse little bubs. We especially love how the baby squeaker hides away safe and sound and who could possibly resist those gorgeous little monkey pants!

DwellStudio Goes Safari!

We love everything that DwellStudio produce but these papier mache pieces have to be our favourites.

Each piece is handmade using layers of repurposed cement bags covered with vintage French book pages. The papier mache animal head is then finished with an oil-based varnish.

Available from Kido Store for $110.00. Animal heads come in Giraffe (pictured above), Gazelle, blue Zebra and pink Zebra. Pre-orders are currently being taken for April delivery.
