New! Step To The World Socks Game

New! Step To the World Socks Game

I always remember as a child my Dad suddenly asking me out of the blue what the capital city of a particular country was. What’s the capital of Iceland? Spain? Argentina? It felt like a game at the time but unbeknownst to me, I was actually learning about all these foreign countries. Funnily enough, I can’t remember what I had for breakfast these days but I still remember all those capital cities!

It’s a little harder to quiz the kids when it comes to the flags of various countries which is why this game is such a great idea! Step to the World Socks by Japanese company gg*, is a type of memory game based on the flags of nations from around the world. There are 14 pairs of illustrated wooden socks with one sock showing a graphic of the main features of a nation’s flag and the other sock revealing the full flag, the name of the country and the way you say ‘hello’ in the national language of that country. There is even a blank pair of socks so the kids can add the details of their own favourite country.

The game consists of 30 wooden socks (14 illustrated pairs and 1 blank pair) and comes packaged in a lovely 100% hemp canvas bag in the shape of a sock.

Step to the World Socks is available in Australia from Scallyoop for $64.50. We think this game makes the perfect gift… particularly since everyone has Olympic fever at the moment!

Tube Toys – The tube becomes a vehicle!

Tube Toys - The tube becomes a vehicle!

At Style My Child HQ, there are four children. That’s four birthdays per year and four lots of Chrissy presents to be had. Each time one of these occasions occurs, I’m left shaking my head at the enormous amount of packaging that is left behind after the kids have run off with their latest and greatest toy.

Not only is it almost impossible to open some packaging without ninja scissor skills and a whole lot of patience (I’m looking at you clear plastic boxes with the hard plastic ties!), it is also dreadful for our environment. A solution? The Tube Toy by Oscar Diaz Studio in London.

Tube Toys - The tube becomes a vehicle!

This fabulous toy IS the packaging!  Each tube contains the components and decals needed to create a unique push-along toy. Pre-cut slots and holes have been placed in the tube so little fingers can add the wheels and other components themselves. Once complete, all that is left is a single piece of recyclable paper. Now that’s smart design!

The Tube Toy not only teaches kids to consider their environment, it also encourages them to use their imaginations and fine motor skills. They’ll be filled with a sense of pride at their efforts and you’ll be able to fit everything in the bin that week! :)

Tube Toys are available in Australia from Little Living for $19.95 each. Brilliant!

This is the beautiful photography of Nicolle Kennedy.

Nicolle is a Melbourne born and bred family photographer who understands that every child is different and should be captured in their own unique way. So, instead of shooting using traditional methods, Nicolle taps into her vast range of retouching, graphic design and interior styling skills to create a whimsical and just plain magical image of her subjects.

Introducing Nicolle Kennedy Photography

A self confessed artist, Nicolle aributes creativity and uniquely beautiful images to what inspires her – “I’m not interested in creating a franchise” she says. “I’d much rather create something that captures a child’s imagination, because as we know, that kind
of mysticism is fleeting and should be celebrated for a lifetime”. We couldn’t agree more!
