Toddler Development

Encouraging Toddler Development

A toddler is a child between the age of one and three. Mothers are thrilled to watch their tiny babies finally grow and reach a different milestone. At this stage, the baby is starting to walk on his own. Toddlers interact better with their environment and explore every part of this. They can recall people’s faces and names, can imitate simple gestures and exhibit great independence. During this stage, they, therefore, demand the parent’s attention more than ever. As a parent, you should:

  • Pay attention to his or her needs.
  • Play hide and seek with her.
  • Engage her in games that enhances his cognitive skills.
  • Explore new toys and colourful objects to her; explain how each works as if he can listen.
  • Read stories to him every day or night before sleep.
  • Watch educative kids’ shows he can imitate
  • Have conversation by replying his babblers

However, in this stage, a child tends to show signs of independence and needs constant monitoring. A parent must put dangerous objects out of sight because all children are curious.

Stages of Child Development

These stages involve intellectual, social and emotional, physical and speech developments.

Intellectual Development

Children are fascinated with pictures, colours, shapes etc. At this stage, they could practice with simple puzzles but may not always get it. They can repeat numbers after you and recognise figures.

Between two and three years, they can respond to simple commands such as sit down, stand up, jump up etc. They can also handle a writing material on their own and scribble on a paper.

Social and Emotional Development

As they grow, they learn hence at age three, and they can express different emotions. A toddler may show that he is angry or embarrassed or happy or sadness among many emotions. For instance, a child might show rejection by pushing a thing away or refusing to take it. They are commanding with their wants and express dissatisfaction by crying or appearing angry.

Physical Development

Children in this stage of development have fully grown and can walk without support. The child is beginning to notice his environment more and picks on anything quickly. Hence, one must be careful of what one says or does or make them watch. They are curious little beings, of course!

They show much strength and involve in more activities such as running, climbing, kicking and picking up objects at two years.

Behaviour Disorders

From clocking a year to two and then three, they learn about their environment and adjust by imitating most things. Hence, the kind of environment a child grows in plays a crucial role in shaping their behaviour. Likewise, the type of family and the bonding such baby has with them will also tell on his behaviour. The most behaviour deficiency exhibited by a child is anger.

Anger Issues

Anger issues become complicated if not corrected at the earliest stage. Toddlers are often commanding what they want, and if they are denied, they may throw a fist or protest in any way they can. Parents should try to explain to children why they reject them; otherwise, it might affect their psychological mind.
